The Tear of Tybaleth Strikes Gold
Wonderful news! Eight of my books now have awards. This past September, the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) honored my fantasy novel, The Tear of Tybaleth, with a gold medal.

And the second book in the same series, The Treasure of Trenalon, got the silver.

Here’s what MWSA reviewers said about The Tear of Tybaleth on Goodreads:
“A blend of action, courage, romance, and poetic storytelling. The saga is highly recommended for fans of epic fantasy.” Review by Sandi Cathcart
“The Tear of Tybaleth will keep you turning pages … Strongly recommended for young adult readers who crave a detailed story of adventure, turmoil, and love.” Review by John Cathcart
If you haven’t read either book, you can snag them at the links below!
What’s my connection to MWSA? Members have either served in the military or have family who did. In my case, both of my parents were in World War II. My father was a captain, my mother a corporal in the WACs. If they hadn’t been stationed in the Pacific, I would never have been born. Someday I’ll write their story—not least of which was an encounter with real-life headhunters! I still have the black-root bracelet they traded with the chief for their picture.
The honor of these awards is particularly moving for me because my parents were writers and actors. While serving, my father put on shows to entertain the troops. His performing troop included Don Knotts, who later became a noted Hollywood comedic actor, and Bill Keane, the cartoonist of Family Circus fame. While I was growing up, Keane’s cartoon of their marriage ceremony hung on our wall: “She married a Second Lieutenant. The first one got away.” Needless to say, my parents—two adventurers who traversed Australia, the Philippines, and New Guinea—had a huge influence on me becoming a writer.
I’m dedicating these awards to them!
